Over 4,000 agricultural pundits and others stakeholders are convening in Dar es Salaam today for the 13th annual Africa Food Systems Forum.

Under the theme ‘Recover, Regenerate, Act: Africa’s Solutions to Food Systems Transformation’, the vital continental forum taking place for the maiden time in Tanzania has been tailored to provide a platform for the participants to chart ways on transfomation of agriculture and food systems in the continent.

During a press briefing over the weekend, Agriculture Minister, Hussein Bashe warmly welcomed the event's delegates from Tanzania and other countries that have landed in the country for the summit.

He expressed that the forum was a prestigious opportunity to help establishing inclusive and sustainable food systems transformation across Africa.

Bashe added that the forum will stimulate efforts being initiated by the government to address existing gapes in food security and job creation in Tanzania, especially through Tanzania’s flagship initiative, “Building a Better Tomorrow: Youth Initiative for Agribusiness (BBT-YIA).

The Africa Food Systems Forum 2023 will specifically address optimising youth employment within Africa’s food systems while showcasing the innovative agribusiness ventures driven by young entrepreneurs.

Managing Director of the Africa Food Systems Forum, Amath Pathe Sene, spoke over the need to contain food system challenges.

“It is prudent to develop sustainable solutions rooted in our local context and give paramount importance to women and youth empowerment in transforming our food systems,” Sene said.

The Forum will also build momentum for the Food Systems Transformation Dialogue ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 28) in Dubai.

Key highlights include thematic plenary sessions with expert speakers, a ministerial roundtable involving over 40 ministers, and a high-level session where Heads of state will make commitments to advance Africa’s Food system transformation.
