The Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) has submitted a notice of appeal against the release by the Court, the suspects of wildlife illegal business.
The suspects Masiali Lais Kipara(19) and Paulo Richard(23) were arrested on February 14, 2023 in the area of the Burunge wildlife Management Area, (Burunge WMA) by the WMA Rangers in collaboration with the Rangers of the chem chem Association that has invested in the area, they were caught with a killed Giraffe weighing 54.5 kg worth 35.1 million TShs.
However, at the end of the week after the case was heard for about five months, the resident magistrate of the Manyara regional court, Martin Masao found the inconsistent of the testimony of the important witness of the Case.
Among the reasons for the release of the suspects, he explained, was the inconsistency in the testimony of an important witness in the case, Babati District Wildlife Officer Samweli Bayo, who participated in the arrest of the suspects.
However, speaking to the journalist, TAWA Prosecutor, Getrude Kariongi has said that they have already filed a notice of appeal.
"We have received the Judgment, we are going through all the proceedings of the case and later we will appeal and we will give them a notice," he said
She has said that the legal shortcomings that have led to the release of the suspects are being worked on.
The acquittal of the accused by the Court has now become the second phase, initially they were released by the Court on the grounds that they are under 18 years of age, however later they were arrested by the Police and TAWA Rangers and the case began to be heard.
