Adv.Onesmo Olengurumwa, National Coordinator THRDC Reflections.

Today, during the Strategic Dialogue On Forging Partnerships Between CSOs and Bar Associations, April 7, 2025, THRDC National Coordinator, Adv. Onesmo Olengurumwa, delivered a compelling presentation on advancing collaboration for the protection and promotion of human rights, rule of law, and institutional accountability.

Onesmo reaffirmed the collective strength of over 300 member organizations under THRDC, actively working across Mainland and Zanzibar with the joined efforts from TLS, PALU, EALS, ZLS,  and ZAFELA.

He reflected on how Tanzania’s 4Rs philosophy has opened new spaces for engagement, dialogue, and reforms, but emphasized that sustaining these gains requires deeper strategic partnerships.

Onesmo emphasized the need to fast-track the development and adoption of a National Policy on Human Rights Defenders based on internationally recognized models, to safeguard the dignity and operational space of defenders.

He also stressed the importance of establishing a National Coordination Taskforce for human rights reporting to regional and international mechanisms, ensuring that Tanzania speaks with one voice and upholds its treaty obligations through broad and inclusive participation.

He advocated for amendments to the Legal Aid Act, to expand the reach and quality of legal services especially for vulnerable populations.

He further recommended integrating human rights education systematically within the national curriculum to empower citizens with knowledge from an early age, building a stronger civic culture.

Onesmo underscored that child protection must become a national priority, calling for participatory mechanisms that involve government, CSOs, and legal practitioners in safeguarding children's rights against violence and abuse.

We are all proud to champion these bold proposals under the Support of EU Co funded program.

We remain firmly committed to driving forward a collaborative movement that strengthens partnerships between CSOs, Bar Associations, and government actors, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of justice, dignity, and human rights.
